Stroll along Snug Harbor’s boardwalk or sandy beach and you’ll hear some of the best jazz ever created. That’s because Snug’s owner, Ty Lomes, has been streaming Snug Harbor Radio 24/7 since 2011. His childhood interest in broadcasting led him to major in it in college.
“Jazz is one of my favorite music formats and it’s always underserved,” he said during a recent interview. “I particularly have an interest in Bossanova Latin Jazz and thought I might be able to build a station around that music. Its Brazilian in origination and gives the station an international reach that fits with the real reach of internet radio.”
Snug Harbor Radio is an Internet radio station, though Ty would like to see it go low power FM. Because most of the frequencies where he resides are taken, it will be a real challenge.
The programming begins at Midnight US Central time with Bossanova and a sprinkling of other Latin selections about 2 p.m. Then he introduces Eclectic Jazz, which features compatible sounds. Romantic Jazz is featured at 6 p.m. and for the rest of the evening. Ty said the Latin segment is the most popular and Romantic Jazz follows behind it in listener interest.
